Laura Duchenne: Sustainable Poultry Farmer in Andenne, Belgium

Poultry farmer, entrepreneur, butcher - these are a few words to describe myself

I am Laura, a young mother passionate about agriculture and healthy food for my family and myself.

Based near Andenne, a picturesque town in Belgium, I decided to venture into poultry farming during the coronavirus crisis. This period of reflection allowed me to give meaning to my life. Although not from an agricultural background, I have always had a passion for farming. Initially, I explored butchery, and later, to go further in this approach, I got into poultry farming. Working with living beings from start to finish, from animal to meat, is a process that is close to my heart.

Through fortunate encounters, I gained access to agricultural land and hatcheries. Before I knew it, I was a poultry farmer! My chickens have access to changing outdoor areas, fresh air, and light. They can scratch the ground, run, sunbathe, and enjoy fresh grass in agroforestry plots. They are fed with Belgian organic food. The entire circuit is guaranteed – 150 km from birth to final consumer, ensuring juicy, tender, and flavorful chickens.

I sell my chickens directly to local consumers and a few nearby restaurants, who particularly appreciate the flavor and quality of my products. Thanks to my artisanal approach and attention to detail, I have built a solid reputation in the Andenne region.

Besides farming, I am committed to awareness and education. I organize farm visits for schools and the public, sharing my knowledge and encouraging responsible consumption.

With love,
Laura Duchenne
